How I think or hope the Garlasco case will end

A long interview with director Umberto Brindani about my novel “Il Garbuglio di Garlasco” was published yesterday in the weekly magazine “Gente,” discussing how it’s possible that three years ago it already reported all the elements that the new Public Prosecutor’s Office in Pavia is now investigating. It’s simple, I always answer in these cases: you just had to read the court documents.

The interview then revolves around the gut feeling, ours and also that of some magistrates, about the behavior and personality of Alberto Stasi, immediately identified as “The Bocconian with ice-cold eyes.”

And on the persistence still in the discussions of some clues – such as the exchange of pedals for example, or a possible argument over pornographic images on the computer – widely disproven by the facts ascertained in court and by expert reports.

How do I think or hope this case will end? Naturally, I hope that, despite the 18 years that have passed, the rigor of the new investigation will lead to an incontrovertible truth. Or at least, to dust off the “reasonable doubt” of the first two sentences on Stasi.

And I also strongly hope that, if errors of judgment are found in the conviction sentence, this will not become an opportunity for a generic attack on the entire judiciary, a further tool to delegitimize their work.
