“We are going to put our bodies between the Palestinians and the settlers”
It was early September, the days when the flotilla was leaving for Gaza. But she, who has been fighting in Palestine and for Palestine for fifty years, did not forget what was happening at the same time in the West Bank.
I reach her on the phone on the morning of 15 October. She is in the fields near Tulkarem with 150 other activists from around the world, including Israelis, who have come to protect Palestinian farmers’ olive harvest. When I call her, soldiers are lined up in front of them, and armed settlers are arriving… I hear from her again in the evening. Her voice is hoarse, her lungs filled with tear gas fired at them by the soldiers.
